What is Pink Heals? It is a charitable organization that was founded in 2007 by retired firefighter and philanthropist, Dave Graybill in Pheonix, Arizona. Pink Heals is all about rallying firefighters and other citizens together within our communities to help make a difference for women facing a cancer diagnosis. Currently, there are over 40 chapters in North America, and we are proud to be working towards becoming the second chapter in Canada.
Why pink? Pink is considered to be the color of women. We are here to raise awareness, funds, and provide support placing it where it needs to go: to the women in our community struggling to fight this dreaded disease known as Cancer. All Cancers!
How does this work? Pink Heals is one of few charities that supports other charities. We tour around the city in a Pink Fire truck and attend local fundraisers to help them raise (tax deductable) money under our name. It is the mandate of the organization that all donations to Pink Heals go directly to families in need, or to local charities. In addition, Pink Heals supports women in its community by inviting them and their friends and families to sign the truck and share their stories.
Meet our to-be truck. Our truck is dedicated to an incredible woman from Calgary, Maralee Pozzo. Maralee, late wife of retired fire captain, never let cancer take her smile away or the love that she had for so many people. She was a brave woman and was always surrounded by her loving husband, family and friends. Maralee lost her battle with cancer on September 16, 2011 and we are proud to honour her name and continue her legacy by naming the truck after her.
Show your support. To make Pink Heals Calgary a reality, we need your help! We are looking for "friend-supporters" to cover our operating costs: painting and insuring our vehicle! Please sign this petition in support of Pink Heals coming to Calgary so that we can show everyone how important this organization could be to our community.
